Health, Safety and Environment officer will be responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, healthy, and environmentally compliant workplace. This role are multifaceted, blending technical knowledge, regulatory expertise, training, and cultural influence.
List of Major Responsibilities
REGULATORY COMPLIANCE & MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
- Develop, implement, and maintain SHE policies, procedures, and management systems (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
- Stay current with local, state/provincial, national, and international SHE regulations (OSHA, EPA, EU directives, etc.).
- Ensure the organization complies with all applicable laws and standards.
- Prepare and submit required regulatory reports and permits.
- Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory agency inspections and audits.
RISK ASSESSMENT & HAZARD CONTROL
- Conduct regular workplace inspections, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and risk assessments.
- Identify potential physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic hazards.
- Recommend and implement engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE) programs.
- Manage the process for reporting and investigating incidents, accidents, near-misses, and environmental spills to determine root cause.
- Develop and track corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to prevent recurrence.
TRAINING & COMPETENCY DEVELOPMENT
- Design, deliver, and track SHE training programs for employees, contractors, and management.
- Topics include: hazard communication, emergency procedures, lockout/tagout, chemical safety, environmental awareness, etc.
- Ensure specific roles (e.g., forklift operators, first responders) receive required certified training.
- Promote SHE awareness through campaigns, meetings, and communications.
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
- Develop and manage programs for waste management (hazardous and non-hazardous), recycling, and pollution prevention.
- Monitor and manage air emissions, water discharges, and soil contamination risks.
- Oversee energy and resource conservation initiatives.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Respond to and manage environmental incidents.
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE
- Manage employee health programs, including hearing conservation, respiratory protection, and ergonomics.
- Conduct exposure monitoring for noise, dust, fumes, and other airborne contaminants.
- Administer programs for first aid, medical surveillance, and wellness.
- Manage worker’s compensation cases and facilitate return-to-work programs.
- Oversee contractor safety management.
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS & RESPONSE
- Develop, maintain, and test emergency response plans (fire, chemical release, natural disasters, etc.).
- Coordinate with local emergency services (fire department, hospitals).
- Organize and evaluate emergency drills (evacuation, spill response).
- Maintain emergency equipment (eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, spill kits).
DATA ANALYSIS, REPORTING & CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
- Collect and analyze SHE performance data (leading and lagging indicators).
- Prepare detailed reports for management on safety statistics, trends, and program effectiveness.
- Use data to drive decision-making and prioritize safety investments.
- Lead or participate in internal audits and management reviews.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement in SHE performance.
CULTURAL LEADERSHIP & ENGAGEMENT
- Advocate for a strong safety culture where SHE is a core value.
- Facilitate safety committees and employee engagement initiatives.
- Coach and influence managers and supervisors on their SHE responsibilities.
- Recognize and reward positive safety behaviors.
TEAM DEVELOPMENT
- Conduct daily morning meeting with other team members and perform assign tasks.
- Conduct training for FM personnel on safety awareness issue (Fast Aid, Fire & Earth quack evacuation drill) to ensure expected level of performance.
OTHER ASSIGNMENTS
- Taking personal initiatives for self-development
- Any assignment given by the management time to time
- Regular follow-up on any communication with existing clients for any reason
- Attend management or any special meeting (as and when required)

QUALIFICATION
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of engineering principles, industrial hygiene, environmental science.
